Our two Parishes of Adelong and Tarcutta no longer have Covid19 rules. However, we still distribute the wine of Holy Communion in individual cups.

Adelong Church News

Our Friday worship is very popular and open to every one. We gather in St Paul's hall at 10.30am on the first Friday of each month (except January). The worship is about 45 minutes in length, it is more low key than Sunday, and we have opportunities to share our faith, to do some activity, and have Holy Communion too. This is all followed by morning tea.

On Friday the 1st of March we held the ecumenical (all denominations) worship called The World Day of Prayer. It was held in our St Paul's Adelong church at 9.30am. It was a service of about 1 hour and was attended by 29 people. It was organised and led by Ruth Allen. This service is held each year, and in Adelong we take turns with the Catholic Church. This year the country was Palestine. The service is planned 5 years in advance by The World Day of Prayer Committee. It was quite unusual really, considering the situation in Israel at present. However, it all went well, with the Committee supplying a reflection instead of a speaker, to avoid any bias. We all enjoyed morning tea afterwards in the hall.

Affinity String Quartet to perform in Adelong.

Our Adelong Church supports the community whenever we can. Therefore we are pleased to announce the arrival of the Affinity String Quartet at the Adelonia Theatre Adelong on Sunday the 26th of May from 2pm until 5pm. The concert is hosted by Adelong Alive Musuem. The Quartet will be fresh from their European tour. Tickets are $20 to $40 each.

Des Mullion is a committed Christian and was a full member of our Adelong church. He has since moved from town to take up residence elsewhere. We miss Des from our fellowship, and wish him all the best, and the Lord's blessings. Des has completed a video of his life's experiences and is on YouTube. I quote below the comments from the video, and also a link so you can watch it ...

"This original work is a life-bio documentary about Des Mullion. It is a true story of redemption, self-education, and learning about the power of emotional awareness. Des is an artist, song writer and performed and has also taught emotional awareness for 10 years. His life changed in a spiritual moment as he was facing his mortality, and then developed as he became aware of his indigenous roots. Des is a man who, in his childhood, was a victim of extreme domestic abuse and abuse in institution care. This pattern contributed to adult incarceration resulting from alcohol abuse, crime and violence. I am very proud to have been able to help Des tell his story. - Michael McSweeney"

Here is the video. You can watch it from here, or click the YouTube icon on the video and watch it directly on YouTube ...

Des Mullins - A Colourful Life

There is a lovely Memorial Garden behind our St Paul's church. The garden is being refurbished as it had become somewhat overgrown. Old plants were removed and new ones planted which were purchased from the nursery in Batlow. Many loved ones are remembered in the garden with plaques and plants. It is October 2023, and again the garden is being refurbished. Di from next door, at the Rectory Bed and Breakfast, is doing this great work. Di is an Horticulturalist.

Our next Parish Council meeting will be the third Wednesday of the month on the 15th of May 2024 at 5pm in the parish hall. Note- there is no April meeting.

We are planning our ministry for the rest of this year of 2024. Outreach initiatives include another "Open Day" with food and music, and Sunday lunch after worship once a month.

Our Parish Council and sub committees have obtained quotes from builders and other tradesmen for a new roof on St Paul's Adelong. We have investigated grants that are available to assist in this project. The current roof is very old, with leaks, gaps where the Bats enter, and crumbling support stonework. Possible cost is $100,000.

Phil Davey is the coordinator of this project. He has done much work to apply for a government grant. We should know in March 2024 if we have been successful in this grant. Please include it in your prayers.

Our Church celebrated 150 years of worshipping in St Paul's on Sunday the 11th of December 2022. We also celebrated Confirmation with Penny Bassett being Confirmed. It was a wonderful day with worship at 9.30am, followed by brunch with over 50 people in attendance. Our Bishop of Canberra and Goulburn the Right Reverend Doctor Mark Short was the celebrant and preacher. Penny confirmed for herself her belief in Jesus and was prayed for her to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit, and that she may grow in grace. Penny's sponsor was her mother, Marion Bassett.

We gave thanks for St Paul's; for those who had the vision to build the place, the workers who laid their hands to the task, and those who have maintained its presence until this day.

New carpet in St Paul's. The blue carpet in the Sanctuary has been replaced. It was very old, full of gaps, and held together with black tape. It was time to replace it. New grey blue carpet tiles have been laid. The new tiles are a contrast in colour to the rest of the church carpet, but also the colour was chosen to match and accentuate the blue carpet of the Nave. It looks so lovely. It was a big job to replace the carpet. Thank you to the contractors and the volunteers who made it all possible. Bishop Mark prayed and gave thanks to God for the new carpet when he came for our 150th Celebrations and Confirmation.

Tarcutta Church News

Tarcutta Parish Council AGM is being held on Friday the 10th of May at 10.00am in the parish hall.

St Marks Tarcutta has sold the church building at the Centre of Humula. After following the legal procedures, we had no objections from the community before the close off date. Consequently we had received the go ahead from Diocesan Council. The church building has now been sold. It no longer belongs to the Anglican Church. We congratulate the new owners. The buyer is going to enjoy a lovely old church; to renovate, or just to enjoy developing the land. We had a lot of bids, and we give God all the glory.

The Humula Church furniture and fittings have now been donated to various groups and churches, and some of it sold. This was a big job to settle this project. John Tweddle and others have worked hard.

Our next project is to repair and update St Mark's hall. Parish Council has worked on this. The interior has been renovated, especially where there was big damage by white ants. Now Julie has been given the go ahead to personally paint the interior.

Our three planned projects were - 1. to sell Humula church 2. Erect a ramp at St Mark's Tarcutta, and 3. Renovate the hall. It is all succeeding. Please keep this in your prayers too.
